Untrue by NoodleDoodler Untrue by NoodleDoodler
Inspired by Burial. [link]

Took me a while to do this; I remember when this first started out as a puddle and I worked at it, left it for weeks, went back to it, deleted the whole thing and started over, asked for suggestions, revised, remade...

I think this is the most I'm going to get out of this project, maybe one day I'll remake it. Again I'm always looking for some helpful critique, if you could please leave any comments on errors I made or things to improve I would certainly take it into consideration.

...Make sure to fullview.

Thanks.

Daily Deviation

Given 2008-09-19
Untrue by =NoodleDoodler carries a most interesting concept which could almost ask if the skies were falling down. In a strange way the grain of the picture adds to the realism. Working with water is risky business, but the artist pulls it off quite well. ( Suggested by conorschild and Featured by IreneLangholm )
:iconme-pawel:
Untrue by =NoodleDoodler shows large amounts of water falling from balconies and other tall structures onto an alley. The image's gradient relies purely on black and white and was created through means of digital manipulation. The negative space in the image (i.e. where no water is falling) works as a balance to the large amount of water that is present in the foreground, as well as in the background of the image. The image uses natural shapes, which are exemplified by water drops and splashes, as well as geometric symmetry, as shown by the diagonal line, which is actually the curb, going "into" the image.

"Untrue" is a prime example of what can be achieved through photo manipulation. It shows an original idea which is demonstrated through flawless execution. No lines or other imperfections of the water (which is an extremely hard subject matter to work with because of its extremely asymmetrical forms, shapes and reflections) can be spotted in the image minus a small impact conflict on the first waterfall on the right. This makes the image seem more like a photograph of an event so unlikely to happen.

The work also shows off excellent use of stock photographs. Since all of the stock resources are cited at the bottom of the artists description, one can see what kind of thoughts go through an image manipulators mind when choosing their stock. It shows how images of everyday objects of normal day-to-day situations can be used to create a work that comes directly from the innermost thoughts of an artist.

Personally, this work also showed me something interesting. While =NoodleDoodler was creating the work, she showed me several "WIPs" (work in progress) of it. This showed me how much effort and dedication must have gone into the image, because of the visible transformations that were present after each and every step.

From an emotional point of view "Untrue" is a powerful piece that has a lot of meaning to it. I personally interpret the piece as a sort of emotional cleansing of the city. A dark alleyway is being cried upon by the buildings that surround it to be washed clean of the dubious actions that happen on it every day. Of course =NoodleDoodler has her own sentiments for the picture which are probably completely different from mine. Nevertheless it shows that the artist has created something which really means something to her and that serves as a medium of expression and channel for her feelings.

In conclusion, I have to say that "Untrue" by =NoodleDoodler truly deserved the Daily Deviation that it got, not only because of the final product that is visible to each and every person on the internet, but also because of the work that was behind it, which I luckily got to witness.

And so was I when I said put it up anyway, because someone's bound to like it. And even though not many people said much more than "well done", you still got a handful of handy tips, which if you're smart you'll use and improve yourself. You'll improve much faster with someone else letting you know if you're on the right track.

I was watching the Science Of Sleep extras the other day, and the girl who did all the little animals for the dream sequences was being interviewed and she said that whenever she started making something, she always had this image of a perfect rock or a perfect turtle, or whatever in her mind. Yet they all come out looking like [link] and she hates them and thinks they all suck. But she still makes a living from them. So yeah, keep going, you've just proved you're good!

That's a cool idea! I think the average neighborhood alley would be pretty cool with a bunch of waterfalls streaming down the side. A nice little nook on the fire escape behind the waterfall to relax on a hot summer day would be marvelous. I think you could work this idea to refinement a little more. Perhaps with some more subtleties like moss or wetness on the walls near the waterfalls. In some spots the water just seems to kind of disappear into the pavement where it should be crashing into an alley river. All in all though, this is a very effective and powerful image.

I can tell that you're trying to get a waterfall effect, and it's nicely done. However, when I first looked at it, I thought it was just a lot of fog. I know that at the bottom of waterfalls, the water creates somewhat of a mist, but this seems thicker than a mist. And if you looked at it at a different perspective, the waterfalls could be made of sand instead of water, especially the waterfall in the center-middle of the photo.

Despite all that, I do like the shot alot, and I can see that you've put a lot of hard work into it. Please keep up the good work.
